Can a US Citizen cruise to Cuba, you ask?
The announcement that came on Friday, June 16th, 2017 still leaves in question the exact terms that US citizens will have to meet in order to travel to Cuba. According to White House officials, they believe that any changes still remain months away.
What we do know!
They have approved the continuing permission for Cruise lines to sail to Cuba on any of their already scheduled sailings. For many cruise lines that goes into 2019!
Our understanding is that the recent changes in the US Federal Government’s stance towards US Citizens traveling to Cuba will not affect Cruise travelers going to Cuba under the terms of the allowable forms of travel. As in the past, all Cruisers were escorted on land tours and at this time, we believe that will not change moving forward. What we do know will disappear is the “self guided” tours. If you are the kind of traveler that likes to go off on your own rather than take a tour BOOK ASAP and try to sail asap!
According to the Washington Post
“Under Trump’s proposed changes, the “people to people” category will revert to group-only travel.”
The government is planning on cementing the new restrictions, but it will take some time before they are implemented. We wish we knew how long! Until that time we are working with what each cruise line tells us.
As your Cruising to Cuba experts, we are monitoring the news by the minute. We are in contact with every cruise line daily to stay updated.
